A Foundation of Leadership
Julie Helps
A key principle in business is that all success is built upon a foundation of leadership. This does not mean the leadership of one, but the shared leadership of all involved. In the book, "The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership" author John C. Maxwell talks about the first law of leadership as being The Law Of The Lid.
This law states that the leadership ability is the lid that determines a person's level of effectiveness. The higher the leadership, the greater the effectiveness. If your leadership rates an 8, then your effectiveness can never be greater than a 7. In order to increase the overall success of the practice we must not only work on management and clinical systems but also on the leadership effectiveness of every team member.
Everyone has leadership potential. The definition of leadership is what is important here. When we are able to see each other through the lens of a different paradigm of leadership then our natural leadership is allowed to blossom. As the overall level of leadership increases so does the overall effectiveness, ultimately leading to greater success in all areas.
Mr. Maxwell tells us that, "Everything rises and falls on leadership." He finishes by stating that as you work to build your organization, remember this:
- Personnel determine the potential of the organization
- Relationships determine the morale of the organization
- Structure determines the size of the organization
- Vision determines the direction of the organization
- Leadership determines the success of the organization
We are committed to supporting you in all of these areas by fostering the natural leadership that resides within each individual.
